INDIANAPOLIS – The 2010 Horizon League Cross Country Championships are set for Saturday, Oct. 30 with the women’s event beginning at 11:00am (CST) followed by the men’s event at 12pm. The events will take place at Montrose Beach Harbor Park in Chicago, Ill. and are hosted by Loyola University.
Butler took both the men’s and women’s titles at last year’s championship in Milford, Mich. and leads the league in men’s consecutive titles (12) and women’s consecutive titles (6).
Butler women return the three award winners from last year’s championship, defending champion and newcomer of the year, Lauren McKillop and the 2009 Athlete of the Year, Katie Clark. Additional All-Horizon League participants running for the Bulldogs are sophomore Shelbi Burnett and senior Rosie Edwards.
The men graduated three-time champion Andy Baker, but back for the Bulldogs are Tom Boardman, Justin Roeder, Madison Roeder and Matt Lawder, all members of the 2009 All-Horizon League team.
Other returning 2009 Women All-Horizon League members are Milwaukee’s Elise Sigg, a two-time H.L. athlete of the week and senior Tanaiya Fisher. Loyola brings back junior Jen Rock and Gina Valgoi, the Sept. 27th athlete of the week. Youngstown State is represented by sophomore Samantha Hamilton while Natalie Hopwood will compete for Wright State.
Among the men, Josh Stein, a junior at Loyola and 2008 Newcomer of the Year, returns for the host Ramblers along with senior Ben Reifenberg. Other All-League returnees include Milwaukee’s Chris Schuenke, Detroit’s Pat Liederbach and UIC’s Matt Morse.
