INDIANAPOLIS -- The Horizon League Thursday (Sept. 8) released its 72-game women's basketball conference-only schedule for the upcoming 2005-06 season.
The League slate will tip-off Thursday, Dec. 29, with three games -- Youngstown State University at Butler University, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee at the University of Detroit Mercy and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay at Loyola University Chicago -- followed by four on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31.
The regular-season schedule will conclude with three games on Feb. 25. Earlier in that final week UW-Green Bay will play at Wright State University in a rematch of last year's tournament championship game won by the Phoenix 58-48 on the Raiders' home court.
Green Bay enters the season aiming for its eighth consecutive regular-season championship and its seventh tournament title in eight years. Last season the Phoenix lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the University of Maryland 65-55.
The 2006 Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship will begin with an opening-round game on Feb. 28 and continue with the quarterfinals March 2 hosted by the top four seeds. If Youngstown State advances out of the quarterfinals, the Penguins will host the semifinals and championship game on March 5-6; otherwise, the final two rounds will be played at the highest remaining seed.
"We are looking forward to another exciting season of Horizon League women's basketball," said Alfreeda Goff, Senior Associate Commissioner, "and it will culminate with the crowning of our champion following what's sure to be a great week of tournament action."
