Showers sisters duel to a playoff as Butler women capture second consecutive golf crown

Lauren Showers defeated older sister Lynnsey Showers in the first playoff hole and Butler (+72) cruised to a 19-stroke victory to capture the Horizon League Women's Golf Championship for the second straight year. Butler's final score of 936 is a new championship record. Butler's third-round score of 302 is also a new single-round tournament record.

Lynnsey, a junior two-time championship medalist, fired a tournament-low 71 Tuesday to pull ahead with Lauren having three holes remaining. Lauren, a freshman, would sink a short putt on the 18^th to force the extra session. For the tournament, the sisters posted identical scores of 17-over 233, and Lynnsey's round of 71 broke the Horizon League championship record.

Butler junior Paige McCracken and sophomore Niki Garden tied for third six strokes out of the lead, while junior Sarah Swanson tied for ninth place with a 245 (+29).

Youngstown State finished in second behind a fifth-place finish by sophomore Brittany Jones. Jones finished with a 241 (+25), while classmate Adrianna DiLonardo shot just one stroke higher to finish in a tie for sixth.

Loyola (+124), Detroit (+171) and Cleveland State (+174) round out the final standings.  Loyola freshman Kaitlin Kearney captured eighth place with a 27-over 243 (+27).  Junior Rachael Sinnen posted a 245 (+29) to finish in a tie for ninth with Butler's Swanson. Cleveland State senior Kristen Obush led the Vikings with a 242 (+26).

Butler swept the League awards for Women's Golf. Lynnsey Showers was named Athlete of the Year, Lauren Showers garnered Newcomer of the Year honors and Coach Steve Jones was named Coach of the Year.
