CHICAGO, Ill. – Butler University claimed the 2010 Horizon League Women’s Cross Country Championship Saturday afternoon at Montrose Harbor Beach Park. The lady Bulldogs have won eight championships in the past nine years.
Butler tallied 18 points, taking six out of the top eight spots. Butler’s Kirsty Legg, a sophomore from Middlesborough, United Kingdom won the women’s 5K race, crossing the finish line in a time of 17:17.12. Not far behind was teammate Katie Clark, finishing in 17:19.17. Other Bulldogs finishing in the top five spots were Lauren Haberkorn (17:56.01) taking fourth-place and Marbeth Shiell (17:56.82) finishing fifth.
Loyola’s freshman, Megan Janezic from Libertyville, Ill. earned the 2010 Newcomer of the Year award. She finished in a time of 19:04.50, taking 17th place. Butler’s head coach Matt Roe was honored as the 2010 Horizon League Cross Country Coach of the Year, his second consecutive coach of the year award.
Loyola placed second with 68 points, followed by Milwaukee (103), Youngstown State (111) and Wright State (149).
